Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari-Delegation Reaches Washington from UN 2025

Bilawal bhutto Delegation Reaches Washington from UN

WASHINGTON D.C. — A high-powered Pakistani delegation, spearheaded by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, arrived in Washington on Wednesday following a series of critical diplomatic engagements at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The visit is part of Pakistan’s larger effort to explain its view on rising tensions in the region with India and to counter India’s growing diplomatic power in the US.

Composition and Purpose of Delegation

Some of the well-known politicians in the group are Senator Sherry Rehman, Dr. Musadik Malik, Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan, Faisal Subzwari, Tehmina Janjua, Senator Bushra Anjum Butt, and Jalil Abbas Jilani, a veteran diplomat.

According to a statement released by the Foreign Office, the delegation’s key objective was to highlight what it termed as India’s “illegal use of force” and violations of international law in Kashmir, including the alleged targeting of civilian populations, which they claim included women and children.

Rebuttal of Indian Allegations

The Pakistani team firmly rejected Indian accusations related to the April 22 incident in Indian-administered Kashmir, labeling them as baseless and unsupported by evidence. Furthermore, they raised concerns about India’s unilateral actions regarding the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), describing it as a breach of international law and existing treaty obligations.

Interactions with Stakeholders Around the World

The delegation met with important people from around the world during its two-day stay in New York. The UN Secretary-General, the President of the General Assembly, the President of the UN Security Council, ambassadors from permanent and non-permanent Security Council members, members of the OIC Group, representatives from media and civil society organizations, and the Pakistani diaspora.

The delegation emphasized Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to combating terrorism and voiced serious concerns about what it described as “Indian-sponsored terrorism” within Pakistan, including transnational assassination plots allegedly orchestrated by Indian intelligence.

Call for Cooperation Over Politicization

“It was underscored that global cooperation — not politicization — is essential to tackle terrorism effectively,” the statement noted, urging a collaborative international approach.

Pakistan’s Measured Response and Regional Stability

The delegation emphasized Islamabad’s “responsible and lawful” reaction to what it sees as Indian aggression. They also said that Pakistan wanted peace while emphasizing its resolve to defend its sovereignty.

The group warned India not to try to make one-sided military operations normal, saying that this could make the already unstable nuclear situation in South Asia even worse. They said again how important it was to end the war in Jammu and Kashmir in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the people of Kashmir’s hopes.

“The international community must ensure the sanctity of treaties and push for the full restoration of the Indus Waters Treaty while supporting comprehensive dialogue to address all outstanding issues between India and Pakistan,” the statement added.

Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari Advocates Intelligence Cooperation

At a press conference at the UN, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari advocated for intelligence-sharing between Pakistan’s ISI and India’s RAW, suggesting it could significantly curb regional terrorism.

“I am confident that cooperation between ISI and RAW could substantially reduce terrorist incidents in both India and Pakistan,” Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari stated.

Bilawal Bhutto asked the rest of the world to keep working for peace in South Asia, pointing out that things have gotten worse between the nuclear-armed neighbors since the last ceasefire deal.

He said that former US President Donald Trump and Marco Rubio, who was the Secretary of State at the time, played a key role in bringing about that truce. “While the ceasefire was a step in the right direction, it remains only the beginning of a longer road to regional peace,” he said.

FM Dar Highlights Diplomatic Gains

Meanwhile, in a separate press briefing, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar praised the recent diplomatic tour led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which included visits to multiple countries. Dar emphasized that the international community was “applauding Pakistan’s diplomatic and strategic responses.”

“We are receiving global recognition for our kinetic measures and diplomacy,” Dar noted. “Our stance has remained consistent and principled from the outset, and the international response reflects that.”

Dar extended thanks to countries like Turkiye and Azerbaijan for their support, emphasizing that public demonstrations of solidarity were visible in both nations during Pakistan’s recent confrontations with India.

He recalled the proactive support from Turkish leadership during the May 6 escalation, stating, “My Turkish counterpart was the first to call, offering assistance immediately after the Indian aggression.”

Regional Shift in Dynamics

FM Dar claimed that the recent developments had altered the strategic balance in the region. “India’s illusion of hegemony has crumbled,” he asserted. “As Indians point fingers at each other, Pakistan’s narrative is being validated on global platforms.”

Dar concluded by saying Pakistan’s recent diplomatic efforts represented a broader victory not just for the country but for the wider Muslim world, highlighting a unified stance against perceived regional injustices.
